Do all concrete slabs require moisture testing before installing flooring?
Yes! Every Concrete Subfloor Should Be Moisture Tested
It makes no difference whether a concrete slab is 28 days old or 28 years old—both the concrete and the plastic vapour barrier beneath it can deteriorate over time, allowing moisture-related problems to develop.
Australian Standard AS 1884:2021 requires moisture testing to determine whether a concrete subfloor is suitable for the installation of resilient floor coverings. Moisture conditions cannot be determined by appearance alone and must be verified using recognised testing methods.
Skipping moisture testing can lead to costly flooring failures, including adhesive breakdown, bubbling, blistering, cupping, mould growth, and premature floor covering replacement.
Don’t risk floor covering failure—test every concrete subfloor before installation.
